  • Aggressive Driving is not Road Rage.

  • The "Combat Aggressive Driving" campaign is aimed at the root causes of negative high-risk driving. Aggressive driving is not "road rage". Aggressive driving takes many forms but is basically defined in three categories, lack of courtesy, breaking the rules and angry driving. Characteristics of aggressive driving are driving unbelted, driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol, medication or your emotions, speeding, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating, using your car to punish another driver or making obscene gestures. These are just a few of the many traits of an aggressive driver. The goal of this program is to give our soldiers and their families new tools to use to make better driving decisions to avoid becoming an aggressive driver and to avoid becoming the victim of an aggressive driver.

Road Rage: is a felonious criminal assault of one operator/passenger of a motor vehicle on another operator/passenger of a motor vehicle.

Aggressive driving is responsible for two-thirds of all auto fatalities each year resulting in 27,000 deaths while driving under the influence (BAC greater than .08) is responsible for 7,000 deaths each year. Aggressive driving is the leading cause of death up to age 34 for the entire population in the United States. Road Rage is responsible for just over 200 deaths per year.

The cures to the epidemic of aggressive driving revolve around attitude and behavior modification regarding decision making and risk taking when you drive. Emotional intelligence and risk management are key in finding solutions to aggressive driving.

The "Combat Aggressive Driving" campaign will take a multi-pronged approach to education, enforcement and judicial efforts to find solutions to what is increasingly killing our soldiers and their families.
